Apply for permanent residence, citizenship, or sponsor your family member with a Canada visa. Upon approving your application, we will mail you the following-
- Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR)
- A permanent resident visa if you are from a country requiring a Canada visa.
Your COPR contains your photograph and relevant details. Check if the details are at par with those in your passport. In case of any visible mistake, contact us through your registered account. The COPR cannot be extended. Hence, you are recommended to complete all the necessary changes before it expires.
1. If you are already staying in Canada.
- We will contact you on our part in case you are staying in Canada. You will have a brief interview with a Canadian officer. Two interview options are available-
- Make an appointment at one of our Canadian offices.
- Reach a Canadian ‘port of entry,’ presenting:
- Proof of funds to support yourself and your family.
- The COPR and permanent residence visa, if offered by us.
- During the brief interview, the officer will:
- Ensure all the documents submitted are valid.
- Ask a couple of relevant questions to check if you are compatible with immigrating to Canada.
- Confirm your mailing address in Canada through which the permanent resident (PR) card will be mailed to you.
If your residential address changes within 180 days from getting the status, inform us through the web form.
2. If you are staying outside Canada.
It would help if you considered preparing yourself for staying in Canada.
- Using pre-arrival services that may help you in two ways:
- Find out more details about living and working in Canada.
- You are taking steps to get recognized in Canada through your education or. Professional certificates/licenses.
- It would help if you read about finding work while living in Canada.
3. Upon arriving in Canada.
– Make use of ArriveCAN.
It offers travel information that is mandatory for entering and staying in Canada. Make sure you have the latest version in hand. If you had submitted the application using an old version, you might need to resubmit the application using the updated version.
You must have the following-
- Valid passport/travel documents-
- It must be a regular, private citizen passport.
- Immigrating to Canada with a government service, diplomatic, or public affairs passport is not allowed.
- The COPR and permanent resident visa, if we provided one to you.
- Proof of funds to show you can support yourself or your family.
Upon arriving in Canada, you will encounter a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer. The officer ensures-
- You are stepping into Canada on or before the expiry of COPR.
- You are the same individual as the one who is supposed to come to Canada. A biometric test may be carried out for this purpose.
- Check your passport and relevant travel documents.
- Ask brief questions, similar to ones asked upon application. To check if you meet the requirements to immigrate to Canada.
For speeding up your entry to Canada, keep the passport and other documents near you. Prevent securing the documents in your luggage.
You won’t be allowed to enter Canada if:
- Offer false or incomplete details.
- You cannot convince the officer that you are meeting the conditions for Canadian immigration.
If you are permitted to arrive in Canada after scrutiny, the officer will:
- Allow you to enter Canada as a permanent resident.
- Confirm the Canadian mailing address through which you will receive the permanent resident card.
Upon changing your residential address within 180 days of arrival, make sure to let us know through the web form.
– Funds Disclosure.
If you arrive in Canada with more than CAN 10,000 dollars, you must let the CBSA officer know about this. If you do not inform on time, you may be fined. In the worst case, your funds may be seized.
